With over 15 years experience as a high school counselor, Catherine Roy has coached thousands of students through the college application process. She has offered many workshops for both parents and students on topics such as essay writing, scholarships, financial
aid and the overall application process. Catherine especially enjoys helping students with their college essays. Often, students have a difficult time coming up with the essay topic. Catherine takes time to get to know her students and uses that knowledge to guide them to topics that will highlight their strengths, abilities and unique personalities.

Before her counseling career, Catherine also worked as a systems analyst for several
companies, including IBM and Xerox. This experience can be especially helpful for students
who are pursuing a career in technology. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and
Computer Science from the New York State University of Plattsburgh NY and holds a Master
Degree in School Counseling from the College of Saint Rose.

In addition to coaching countless high school students during her career, she has also coached
her own children who have gone on to pursue careers such as a doctor, lawyer, nurse
practitioner and chemical engineer.

As a counselor, Catherine understands the anxiety and stress the college application process
and especially the college essay process can produce. She prides herself in putting students at
ease and giving them the confidence to succeed.
